Online masterclass:
What is this masterclass about?
Unique content only. The result of the years-long experience.
Firsthand tips and tricks from the author.
In this masterclass, you will study Svetlana's most famous and most popular, but also most time-consuming signature technique - multilayer acrylic painting on canvas with scratching.

Get ready to work hard as it may take you from 4 to 9 hours or more per one painting - and this concerns only small paintings of 30x30 or 40x40 cm in size. On larger paintings, as Svetlana herself admits, she works up to several days, and sometimes even weeks!

However, that is worth the effort! The works made in this technique by Svetlana and her students are so impressive that they for sure draw attention of art lovers and collectors.

It is this technique, with which Svetlana has been actively working, improving and perfecting the tricks for more than 10 years now, that has made her famous both as an artist and a teacher. No wonder participants from all over the world attend her live workshops in this technique!

Major experience gained as a result of developing and improving this technique over the years gradually formed several options of this technique. It is impossible to study all of them in one masterclass.

Therefore, Svetlana has developed a course of 3 video masterclasses. Each masterclass will cover one option of the technique, that will allow you to go deeper into all the nuances of each option.

Moreover, each masterclass is completely independent. Together with Svetlana, you will go through 'the blank canvas' stage to the finished painting, studying all the stages of the technique in detail and in plain language, to the extent that it will not cause any difficulty ever for beginners.
The masterclass is 4 hours long.
Recorded with two cameras simultaneously.

Information about the course of masterclasses on this technique:
The course consists of 3 masterclasses
Examples of works and description will help you navigate in all 3 options of the technique and choose the masterclass that is right for you.

In the meantime, Option 2 and Option 3 are available only in Russian.
Option 1
Distinctive features of this option are: more concise and decorative work with color, a clear drawing, a lot of small details. At the same time, there are used tricks from 'realistic' painting, work with volume, light-and-shade, overtones and 'materiality' - glass, metal, satin, porcelain.
Option 2
It is perhaps 'the quickest' version of this technique!))) It will work perfectly for those who do not like to go deep into detail, who love 'live' expressive work, experiments, out-of-the-box solutions and 'modern language' in painting!)
Option 3
The inspiration behind this version of the technique were old and faint frescoes.
It is all about the 'destroyed' painting layer; the color scheme can be both moderate, almost monochrome, and colorful. However, the main feature of this option that differs it from all the previous options is completely different work with shadows that creates the effect of 'aged' surface.

The required tools and supplies for the masterclass
Svetlana's recommendation:
For this technique, I usually use a canvas of natural flax with
thin threads - it is called 'fine-grained' in stores.
I do not really like canvases with admixed synthetic materials due to their excessive elasticity.
I do not recommend using very thin cotton canvases either - they simply may not 'survive' this technique.
My students sometimes use a cardboard or MDF canvas for this technique – it is quite suitable for experimental work! You can also use a pre-primed cardboard, but the cardboard can change its shape because of water.
For the masterclass I recommend you prepare a small canvas - 40x40 or 50x50 as a larger format may prevent you from studying the nuances of this technique.
Acrylic paints
Svetlana's recommendation:
I prefer Russian brands of acrylic paints – such as AcrilArt,
AcrylHobbyDeLux, Ladoga, as well as various foreign brands such as Maimeri, if I like the color.
When choosing acrylic, I assess whether it has a bright gloss when it dries out and whether it is opaque.I love using canned acrylic as this way I can control the thickness of acrylic, and it is very important for this technique.
When you purchase white, please note that zinc white is often less opaque, so I prefer titanium white.
I do not use acrylic from hardware stores nor acrylic for decorative works as it can be of lower quality than painting acrylic, and its properties may not be suitable for this technique.
Svetlana's recommendation:
For this technique you will need high-quality brushes made of synthetic fiber.
I use wide flat brushes for the bottom layer and for varnishing the work at the end.
Also, you will need thin round brushes for the main work - № 1, 2, 3.
Sometimes on the finishing layer I like taking a deeper look at the small details and then I use thinnest brushes, e.g., №0/3.
Lately I have been using the brushes of 'Autumn' series of 'Malevich' brand.
Palette knife
Svetlana's recommendation:
To smooth out the first, 'protective' layer we will need a palette knife. You can use a palette knife of any size, or something else – a spatula, a plastic card - whatever you have at hand J If it is your fist time of buying a palette knife, pay attention to the
comfortable handle and high-quality metal.
Svetlana's recommendation:
Once the work is finished, I cover it with acrylic varnish.
I usually use a matte varnish of St. Petersburg brand called Tair. I apply it with a wide synthetic brush and sometimes with a bristle brush. I will show you all the details at the masterclass.
